Long Live Star Wars!
The Top 15 Han Solo Quotes You Need to Use in Regular Conversation
Written by Anthony Burch
We at DoubleViking consider Han Solo to be the apex of all that is manly. He’s our number one role model, he’s a badass in his own right, and his sarcastic, roguish presence helped make the original trilogy vastly superior to the crappy prequels. He’s so cool, in fact, that we have to suggest you model your life around him – or, at the very least, use some of his quotes in everyday conversation. So, without further ado, here are the fifteen best Han Solo quotes (and when to say them), ranked in order of importance.
15. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
When to say it: When you get a bad feeling, obviously
Had Han Solo been the only character to speak this line in the entire series, it definitely would have been much higher on the list. In reality, sadly, the line is present in every single Star Wars film, thus downplaying its importance as a method of character development, instead turning it into a device that allows George Lucas to wink at the audience. It’s a cute line, but it’s not distinctly Han Solo.
14. “Had a slight weapons malfunction, but everything's perfectly alright now. We're fine, we're all fine, here, now, thank you. How are you?”
When to say it: When your cell phone signal begins to break up
Granted, this is a Star Wars quote which will almost immediately get recognized as a Star Wars quote -- hopefully, you’ll never find yourself in a real life situation where you have to use the term “weapons malfunction.” Still, though, if you’ve got to go through the typically banal “wait, you’re breaking up – can you hear me?” conversation with a friend over your phone, why not throw in a Han Solo quote for good measure? Pretty much everything Harrison Ford says in the series is gold – in everyday life, one should always be searching for methods, no matter how forced, to speak the words of Han Solo.
13. “No, no, NO. THIS one goes THERE, THAT one goes THERE.”
When to say it: When working on a project with a partner
This particular quote won’t make you look particularly cool or Han Solo-ish, but if you use this quote on someone and they recognize it as what Han yells to Chewie at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back, marry them. Immediately. Doesn’t matter what gender they are.
12. “Great, kid. Don’t get cocky.”
When to say it: When a friend accomplishes something
As much as you like your friends, you can’t give them too much credit: genuine enthusiasm from one friend to another is generally a trait only shared by women, and Han Solo is decidedly not a woman (in fact, his penis could probably break concrete). You can only use this line (or lines like it) for only so long towards your friends – one must be careful to stay in the realm of “lovable asshole” and not crossover into “outright asshole” territory. You want your friends to stay your friends, regardless of how much you may want to mock their accomplishments.
11. “Never tell me the odds!”
When to say it: When gambling
If anything, a decision to not know the odds when gambling seems like lunacy. Logic would dictate that if you bet on a boxing match, you’d damn well better know the spread, right? Well, not if you want to look like a bad-ass, you don’t. Refusing to hear the odds when gambling is so blatant a mistake, so obvious a screw-up, that the other gamblers around you will have no choice but to seriously consider what you hope to accomplish by insulating yourself from the odds. Some of the more nervous men, influenced by your steadfast refusal to play by the rules, may change their bets. Their changed bets will influence others to change bets, and, before you know it, your one line of Han Solo dialogue has completely reversed the spread. And if, by chance, your boxer of choice should actually win, then you will be viewed as a gambling prodigy – a man with an unconventional, unbeatable system who knows exactly what he is doing. And as is the case with so many of these Han quotes, seeming to know what you’re doing is a lot more important than actually knowing what you’re doing.
10. “Yeah, I’ll bet you have.”
When to say it: When an intergalactic bounty hunter tells you he’s been waiting a long time to bring you in
But after you say it, MAKE SURE TO SHOOT FIRST. Even if you somehow manage to “dodge” his blaster shot and return fire in self-defense, it will look nowhere near as cool as if you’d just taken the initiative and blasted the sonofabitch before he knew what hit him. Honestly, what kind of moron would even consider not having Han shoot first?
9. “Here’s where the fun begins.”
When to say it: When you’re about to enter a dangerous situation
The purposes of this quote are twofold: firstly, it gives a greater sense of gravitas to whatever situation you are about to undertake. Even if it’s something as simple as getting called to your boss’s office, or taking an off-road shortcut on the way home, this quote alone will make the event seem much more dramatic and cool. Secondly, having made the event seem much cooler and more dangerous than it actually is, this quote will make the speaker seem that much more skilled, self-assured and bad-ass in the context of the event.
8. “You know, sometimes I amaze even myself.”
When to say it: Anytime
This is pretty much the catch-all arrogant wise-ass phrase to use whenever you do something worthy of congratulation. And if you consider yourself an arrogant wise-ass, then everything you do is worthy of congratulation.
7. “What an incredible smell you’ve discovered!”
When to say it: Anytime you smell something awful
When showing disgust, one has to show repulsion and righteous indignation without seeming like a complete and utter pansy, which is where this quote comes into play. Han is obviously not happy that Leia convinced him to jump down a garbage chute, but at the same time, he’s not running around, whining and crying over the fact that he’s knee-deep in human fecal matter. The “incredible smell” line serves as the perfect balance of arrogant irritation and bad-ass indifference to use when someone lets out a particularly gruesome fart.
6. “Laugh it up, fuzzball.”
When to say it: When a fat/hairy person laughs at you
Again: not outright whiny and confrontational, but this line lets everyone know that you mean business and that you’re tired of their crap. Nobody would dare ignore an insult as unconventional-yet-harsh as “fuzzball,” but they also wouldn’t start a fight over it.
5. “Wonderful girl. Either I’m going to kill her, or I’m beginning to like her.”
When to say it: When talking about a woman you’re attracted to
It’s okay to show attraction to a woman, but not unqualified attraction. It’s okay to show that you would very much like to date a girl you’ve just met, but only so long as you remember to state that you don’t really like her that much. Guys who show unqualified attraction to potential mates usually end up as the schmoes who get screwed over when push comes to shove (“push,” in this case, being a synonym for “woman,” while “shove” is a synonym for “musician”). Not to mention that if the girl hears you use this line, her curiosity will be piqued: why does he like me? Why does he want to kill me? Such curiosity will lead her to talk to you more frequently in a teasing attempt to get you to reveal what you really think about her. So long as you never reveal the truth, the teasing will make way for flirting, and the flirting will more than likely make way for astounding amounts of unprotected sex.
4. “How we doin’?”
“Same as always.”
“That bad, huh?”
When to say it: When asking someone about their day
Ah, world-weariness. The idea that you’ve seen everything, done everything and had sex with everything, and yet you still consider life to be generally disappointing and awful. When using a quote like this, people will wonder why you’re so world-weary, and, if you don’t tell them, you’ll seem to have some sort of dark and mysterious past that you never talk about, despite the reality that you spent most of your childhood eating Cheetos and watching Thundercats. Is there a more wonderfully cynical, yet strangely attractive worldview to have? I think not.
3. “I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful force controlling everything. There's no mystical energy field controls my destiny.”
When to say it: During a debate on religion
It doesn’t matter if you actually believe in God; you have to use this quote in a debate on religion. It’s specific and useful enough to not necessarily seem like a Star Wars quote, and it’s got just the right amount of pseudo-philosophy and world-weary ranting to make you seem infinitely cooler than the other person in the debate. Yeah, you’ve been around. You’ve seen the world. You know what it has to offer. And, you know what? None of it impresses you. You are in charge of your life. God? Psh. Who needs him? Granted, after the debate is done you may need to go home and pray for twenty straight minutes as a method of apologizing to your deity of choice, but the important thing is that, to the guy you argued against, you look like a total bad-ass who remains completely unafraid of Jehovah’s wrath.
2. “Hey…it’s me!”
When to say it: When someone tells you to “be careful”
Who are they to doubt you? Hey, it’s you! If you weren’t the careful, clever guy you were, you’d be dead by now. You don’t need expressions of worry – you’re too cool for that. Admittedly, right after Han says this in ROTJ he steps on a twig and alerts every stormtrooper in the vicinity to his presence, but ignore that for now.
1. “I love you.”
“I know.”
When to say it: Duh
If you use this line at least once in your lifetime, you can die a happy man. It is the epitome of everything Han Solo stands for: cocky and bad-ass, yet sincere. It’s rumored that George Lucas (though he didn’t direct Empire Strikes Back, or even write its screenplay) wanted Han to tell Leia that he “loved her too,” but Harrison Ford demanded that the current version of the line we all adore so very much. Solo’s final line to Leia before getting his shit carbonite-frozen is, bar-none, the greatest moment in the entire Star Wars saga.
Not to mention that if you use this line on a woman who is legitimately expressing love for you, it will drive her nuts. If there’s one thing women love – other than musicians – it’s having strong feelings for someone who doesn’t reciprocate them (especially if the person in question is a musician). If you respond to “I love you” with “I love you, too,” you’re essentially begging the woman to lose interest in you. Making an arrogant, not-quite reciprocation of that love that hints at possible affection without outright stating it is the most intelligent thing you can possibly do; it keeps the mystery up, it keeps you in control and you keep your dignity intact.
Han Solo knows this. That’s why he’s Han Solo.

Date Night
Every once in a while it is important to go out on a date with your significant other.
Friday night d and I had a date night. We started out the evening with dinner at Maggie Moore's - a pretty good irish restaurant/bar right across the street from the Hippodrome theatre.
We started with appetizers - D got soup (can't remember which kind) and I got their version of the Wedge. D said the soup was OK. My salad was also just OK. The salad would have been better if they took out more of the inner core of the lettuce. also, it only came with a few cherry toms and a couple of cucumber slices. I would have prefered more veggies. The dressing was supposed to be a blue cheese and tomato vinegrette but it tasted like watered down blue cheese with a little kick. Like i said... just ok...
For dinner D had the Shepard's Pie and I had the fish and chips. Our entrees were GREAT! We had to eat some good irish food to forget the nasty food from J. Patricks.
After dinner we went to Bedrock Billards to shoot a little pool. I was surprised at how dead the bar was. There are 6 tables upstairs and a bunch downstairs. I didn't make it downstairs, but upstairs there were at least 3 tables open the entire time we were there.
We played 3 games. D won all three, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. The first game I had two balls left. The second game I scratched on the 8 and the third game i had two balls left.
We were home by midnight. It was a good night.

Concert Review: Chris Cornell

So I went to see Chris Cornell at Ram's Head Live! two nights ago.... It was OK.
Stage was VERY sparse - i think my boyfriend's band has more stage accessories than CC did last night. CC was pretty good - did a bunch of old Soundgarden songs, some newer Audioslave, a few solo songs from the time in between those bands, and a couple of new songs with his new band.
He introduced the new band a few times - i still have no idea what they are called (they weren't listed on the website or on any promtional materials.)
Typical show - they played for about 2 hours and then went backstage and came back for their first encore. It was at this point that CC started asking the crowd, "what's my name?" - Like 4 times! Hello? um... we know your name - that's why we were there.... it just seemed a little self-centered and rude actually... they played one more song and then left the stage again.
It was at this point that d and i left. Apparently the band came back on stage for a second encore and they played a cover of Michael Jackson's Billie JEan. The Post gave this song a so/so review.
Over all I would have to say that i give the experience a B- for their sparse stage setting, being rude, performing like a really good cover band (not really tight unless they were playing one of their original songs), and not having any girl/woman concert t-shirt options. This grade would have been a "C" but he is still totally HOT for being like 40 years old.

Concerts: Rules to Live By
So... there are a few rules that concert goers must abide by if you don't want to look like a loser or seriously injure yourself.
You will see that most of these have some exceptions but should only be used when absolutely necessary....
The Rules:
1. NEVER wear the same artist/tour shirt that you are going to see. (Exception: you are wearing a T-shirt that you got 10 years ago the first time you saw the band and that particular tour totally rocked; or, you spilled something on your shirt that makes it unwearable (beer not an excuse) and therefore the only thing you can do is purchase a shirt at the show so that you have something to wear.)
2. NEVER wear open-toed shoes to a concert. For obvious reasons, when people get in a crowded setting like a bar or concert venue you can expect that your feet will get stepped on at least once - even if you have no intention of going into a mosh pit (see rule 3). (Exception: band is playing on a beach.)
3. Don't go into a mosh pit if you are over 30 years old - no exceptions for this one.
4. It is OK to bring your kid to a concert as long as you don't bitch about all of the bad words and drinking that the kid is going to be exposed to.
5. Don't drink too much - you want to be able to get home safely - a DD is the best way to go on this one. Also, you also might want to actually remember the show later on. - no exceptions to this one.
** In a perfect world ** all of the tall people would stay towards the back to allow the shorter people an opportunity to actually see the performers...
.... this is all i have for now - i will up-date this list as i get irritated at the shows i go to this summer and think up new rules.
please feel free to send me additional suggestions.

Additional Thoughts about VT
I watched the memorial service while at work yesterday. I knew that when I couldn't stop crying while trying to dry my hair before coming to work that I should have stayed home.
The memorial service was very moving but i have to say, the thing that keeps getting to me is looking out my window at the flag flying over the Capitol at half-staff.
that is what really makes it real for me.
this is just such a horrible thing. I am heartbroken over this. My beloved university was defiled and will never be the same again.
I will never feel the same way about the university as i did when i woke up Monday morning. Everything has changed.
All i want to do is be there in blacksburg with other hokies...
I saw a few people at the gym last night wearing VT shirts... I imagine they are feeling the same way as I am. Although I didn't know anyone there it is still devastating.
I can already tell that what is really going to piss me off about this is that people will forget those who were murdered and injured and will only focus on the "controversy" of why the students weren't notified to stay off campus after the first shooting.
WBAL's water cooler question of the day this morning was, "in light of the incident at VT, have your views on gun laws changed?" - What a stupid question.
I do believe in a right to bear arms, and apparently this kid did everything legit and by the book. Changing the gun laws in VA or nationally won't prevent this type of thing from happening again. Although I do support an assault weapons ban, something like that would not have had any impact on this situation.
The only thing that will prevent this from happening again, is people paying attention to their friends and acquaintances, and if something seems off - TELL SOMEONE! The media is reporting that this murderer had all of the classic signs of someone capable of doing this and yet no one intervened. Apparently a former teacher recommended he go to counseling but it seems nothing came of it.
That's it for now. Work starts soon. I am sure I will have more to say later.

Where Were You When....?
Our generation has a few of these...
Where were you when OJ ran from the police in his white Bronco?
- I was in my dorm my freshman year at VT watching on a friend's TV.
Where were you when the Columbine Massacre occured?
- I was on my couch at 1108 Progress Street in Blacksburg eating a bowl of cereal.
Where were you on September 11, 2001?
- I was working in Washington, DC at the CEG. I remember being scared to ride the Metro home to my apartment in Alexandrea, but I did it. I remember walking home from the Van Dorn Metro station (about a mile) and being able to see the smoke from the Pentagon.
Where were you when the Space Shuttle Columbia distegrated on re-entry?
- I was unemployed - working out at the gym that morning and watching it live on TV.
Where were you when the U.S. found and captured Saddam Hussein?
- totally random, but I was in Wal-Mart and they had their propaganda monitors tuned to the news
Where were you on April 16, 2007, when a mad-man murdered 32 people at Virginia Tech?
- I was at the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center, again watching it unfold in real time.
..... It is sad. unfortunately this list will only get longer...

A Tragic Event

Today is a sad and horrific day for everyone at Virginia Tech, the Tech community and the nation.
i feel sick.
the news is saying this is the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. 33 people are dead and at least 15 people are injured.
it is heart breaking.
i had the best 4 years if my life at VT.
Every person at VT today will NEVER be able to say that. their experience at VT will forever be marred by this horrible event.
It just breaks my heart that VT will always be remembered as the university with the deadliest shooting in history.
i just dont understand how people can do something so horrible. i can't believe it.
of course i couldn't get any work done today - i just watched the news all day. All i wanted to do was go home and be with D and my friends.
it is just so sad.

Random Thoughts
Imus - he's gotta go.
Bush Administration - gotta go. Seriously. Wether or not they did anything illegal regarding the firing of the US Attorneys they are acting like they did something wrong by being obstructionist and "deleting" e-mails.
My Dodge Neon - gotta go.

welcome back - let's save the world

the last few weeks have been a little crazy. Had to go to Charleston, SC for work for 5 days. It was pretty cool. I had never been there before so i jumped at the opportunity. I learned about how we are totally destroying the environment and what the good people at NOAA are doing to save the oceans.
While we were tooling around the estuarine reserve I saw alligators and DOLPHINS! How cool is that?!
today: this weather is crazy! It is April 15th and we are expecting a NOR'EASTER to put the smackdown on the East Coast! I feel like we are in the movie "Day After Tomorrow." Soon we will see tornadoes in LA. For as cheezy at is is, i totally love that movie. I watch it all the time when the weather is nasty. it is a good reminder that we need to do more to protect the planet.
I think i am becoming a tree-hugger...

Elevator Amnesia
Ok so here's the thing.
I work on the 7th floor of my building so i ride and elevator several times a day. Lots of random people get in these elevators on and off various floors. Many times people get on and whether they are going one floor or all the way down or up it seems that as soon as they get in the elevator and push the button for their floor they immediately forget that they are in an elevator.
so what happens is that we will arrive at their floor AND NO ONE WILL MOVE OUT THE DOOR! Hello! We are at your destination. You just hit the button for your floor - don't you remember where you are going??
GGGRRR.... very frustrating. I really don't understand why people don't pay attention and get out of the elevator when we get to your floor...
it's called Elevator Amnesia.

My baby - AKA Fatty
I love my kitty. One thing about cats is that they always love a good sunbeam.
Sometimes it makes me sad to think that i won't have her forever. She is a special kitty. She found me in Blacksburg in December 1998. My friend S and I were having a birthday party (our birthdays are 2 days apart) and since there were a lot of people in the house we had the doors and windows open. The windows in the basement are at ground level, and this kitten kept coming in the house - it was cold outside being december and all...
So i threw her out 2 or 3 times and by the end of the night i had no idea what happened to her. I fell asleep on the couch and when i woke up the next morning she was sleeping on me. I decided right then and there that i had to keep her. She was the prettiest kitten i had ever seen! Over the next few days i looked for signs to see if anyone was looking for her, but i never saw any. So, a little over 8 years later I still have her.
Sometimes she is a bad kitty - she has an issue with cardboard (likes to chew it)... anyways, as you can see from the photo she is sort-of fat, but i love my baby...
Half Marathon
So the Baltimore Marathon is in October. My friends have convinced me to run the half with them.... 13 miles is a pretty long distance. I think i ran 5 miles once a long time ago.
I've run 4 miles at a time twice in the last week. It was pretty painful afterwards - back, shoulders and neck don't seem to enjoy it. My trainer at the gym says i probably need to work on my form... I wanted to do some cardio today but i didn't get out of work until 6 and by the time i got home the last thing I wanted to do was hit the gym.
I think tomorrow i'll run two miles and then do the stationary bike for 30 minutes.
i'm not sure if i'll actually be able to make it 13 miles in October but i'm going to try. At least if anything i should lose some weight just by training regularly...
Hey Ho Let's Go!

Mexico!
FINALLY!
We are going on a vacation! It has been waaay to long since we have been on a real vacation. I am sooo looking forward to this trip! We are going for 5 days and 4 nights and another couple, our friends J and J, will be going too!
This will be a much needed trip away from home. I am sooo excited! We are going to the Riveria Maya - a little south of Cancun. The hotel looks great and there are all kinds of opportunities for snorkling, exploring and adventuring. I can't wait!
Now all i need to do is revise my leave request....

Movie Review: Fight Club
I saw this movie once a few years ago and was disturbed by it but enjoyed it. I picked it up at Best Buy after Christmas and just got around to watching it again. This time it was a little different because i knew how the movie ended so as i watched the movie I spend the whole time wondering how "Jack" could be doing all of these things himself and to see if there are any continunity issues - people addresing Tyler directly or something like that... I didn't find anything, but my reaction was the same as the first time I saw the movie - disturbing and mind blowing... it makes me wonder why more people who are slaves to the corporate Ikea world we live in don't just totally lose their shit and start a revolution.
I watched the movie again today but this time with the commentary function turned on - Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonam Carter, and the Director. It was interesting to get their take on how the movie was shot and the difficulties they had with the filming, etc.
I am going to watch more movies with the commentary function....

Every Occasion in Life as Explained by the Jerry Seinfeld Show
ok - so every situation that happens in your life has been parodyed on the Jerry Seinfeld show. For example, one of my most favorite classic scenes is the "reservation" scene where Jerry is at a car rental place and in an attempt to claim his vehicle has the following conversation with the girl at the counter: (episode 28, "The Alternate Side")
Rental car agent: Next please.
Elaine: Well, go, go.
Agent: Can I help you? Name please?
Jerry: Seinfeld. I made a reservation for a mid-size, and she's a small. I'mkidding around, of course.
Agent: Okay, let's see here.
Jerry: Sixty-six years old?
Elaine: Yeah, well, he's in perfect health. He works out, he's vibrant. You'dreally like him.
Jerry: Why do people always say that? I hate everyone, why would I like him?
Elaine: What do you think, would you go out with a sixty-six year old woman?
Jerry: Well, I'll tell you, she would have to be really vibrant. So vibrant, she'd be spinning.
Agent: I'm sorry, we have no mid-size available at the moment.
Jerry: I don't understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?
Agent: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.
Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have thereservation.
Agent: I know why we have reservations.
Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how totake the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation andthat's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybodycan just take them.
Agent: Let me, uh, speak with my supervisor.
The agent goes into an office with a window in the door so she can be seenspeaking with someone.
Jerry: Uh, here we go. The supervisor. You know what she's saying over there?
Elaine: What?
Jerry: Hey Marge, you see those two people over there? They think I'm talkingto you, so you pretend like you're talking to me, okay now you start talking.
Elaine: Oh, you mean like this? So it looks like I'm saying something but I'mnot really saying anything at all?
Jerry: Now you say something else and they won't yell at me 'cause they thoughtI was checking with you.
Elaine: Okay, that's it. I think that's enough, see you later.
The agent returns.
Agent: I'm sorry, my supervisor says there's nothing we can do.
Jerry: Yeah, it looked as if you were in a real conversation over there.
Agent: But we do have a compact if you would like that.
Jerry: Fine.
Agent: Alright. We have a blue Ford Escort for you Mr. Seinfeld. Would youlike insurance?
Jerry: Yeah, you better give me the insurance, because I am gonna beat the hell out of this car.
The reason i bring this up is because i made an appointment with my trainer at the gym for 6 am this morning and SHE DIDN'T FREAKING SHOW UP! For the appointments we had earlier in the week she was 5 minutes late for those. Man. This is a business transaction. I am PAYING for this person's time. She had damn well not do this again or I am going to get another trainer.
I just read my "contract" and I might have to fight "the man" a little harder than expected to get out my contract with this girl. Geeze! It's just rude and bad for business. You make an appointment with someone - you should be there! Especially when that appointment is at 6 am in the freaking morning.
I've gotta call the gym manager later today. The contract says that as a "client" if I don't provide at least 12 hours notice before cancelling a session then I get docked that session. Well.... does it work both ways? If my trainer doesn't show up do i get a free session?? doubt it, but i'm going to try....

Worst Fish and Chips Ever
So, last Friday some friends wanted to meet up for drinks at this Irish bar down the street, J. Patrick's. We had been there before, but only for beers. First thing, while they do have a good beer selection, they are kinda pricey, and like all good bars in baltimore, they only take cash.
So BF and I decided to go early and get food before our friends showed up. I got the "fish and chips" with cole slaw and BF got the Shepard's Pie. Our fist thought of "there's no way they can mess these dishes up" was immediately disproven when our food came out.
My "fish" was literally a flat fish-stick. fish-stick. - And the fries tasted like they had been in the frier all day long. Both tasted nasty - i could only have a few bites.
So i was looking forward to my cole slaw when the woman in the kitchen comes out and tells me they are out. Crap! So i got the "green" salad.
What this woman brought out to me had nothing green in it what-so-ever. It was the core of a head of iceberg with some diced tomatoes.
Shepard's Pie was no better really. BF sort of suffered through it.
So... moral of the story: only eat fish and chips at Maggie Moores across the street from the Hippodrome. No more food at J. Patricks.
PS: the funniest part about this whole thing was that while we were being grossed out by our food this guy next to us (a frat-boy federal hill type) called his buddy to come to the bar and meet up with him b/c the "food was sooo good." Dude was eating mussels and mozzarella sticks...

Jeopardy!
what a great show! I used to watch it every night with my dad when i still lived at home. I thought he was the smartest man in the world. It seemed that he always knew the answer (question). I used to tell him that he should try out for the show but he never did.
I heard a story on NPR on New Year's Day - an old interview with Ken Jennings talking about his experience on Jeopardy and his new book. He said that he grew up over seas in a country where English was not the native language. He and his friends at his english school would rush home everyday to watch Jeopardy on TV b/c it was the only english language television program that was on. I found his story facinating and i am looking forward to reading his book - if i ever get some free time.

Other possible careers....
When i was 10 i wanted to be an astronaut. I thought it would be the coolest thing ever and I would go around telling people that i would be the first woman on Mars. I had that dream for about a year, until i discovered that you had to be in the Air Force to be an astronaut. I knew that i didn't want to be in the armed services so it sort of shot down that idea... but i would always think about it. Maybe someday I'll be able to go into space. Branson is doing some crazy stuff with Virgin Galactic.
Speaking of space - we are entering a new space race and we are quickly being overtaken by other countries whose name rhymes with "Dhina". Our country needs to get on the ball and stop short-changing our space program...
back to other careers... for a short time I also thought about being a teacher - maybe in high school or something. I still think about it sometimes, but now it would have to be college. I have a few friends who are/were high school teachers who have had a pretty hard time with it. Kids today are freaking insane. Granted they worked at one of the worst high schools in the City but still.... i don't know that i'd be able to handle that.
Last night a friend of mine told me that she is looking for a job that will allow her to work from home (to write off the house as a business expense), not do very much and get paid at least as much as she is making now... Amen! I told her if she figuered it out to let me know... Smart woman.
i also have always known that I would work for "the government" in some capacity... as the profile says, right now it is "other duties as assigned." I do a lot of different random stuff. I like working on the Hill but it can be a huge pain in the butt too... I guess it is all relative...
